Virtual Piano Sound Comparison

Want to hear a software demo, but the demo on the website sounded too ‘wow’? Here, I made a demo with the plugin itself, without additional edits. Only presets.

Demo MIDI taken from YAMAHA PSR-S950 (should exist in almost all high-end YAMAHA keyboard series).

Now, let your ears alone who judge.

Native Instruments The Giant.

The Giant is one Kontakt Library, which is based piano Klavins 370i models. This library has “Dark, alter ego” suitable for cinematic, but not discussed here. Klavins himself is known for his weird piano build, including 370i with 370 cm height, making it one of the tallest Upright Piano.

The Giant is compatible with Kontakt 5 Free or Pro, and included in Komplete 10.

Native Instruments Kontakt Factory Library

Kontakt Factory Library is included with Kontakt Player Pro, with the size of about 43 GB. In this article, we only discuss the sound of the piano alone.

I myself prefer the piano sound from Yamaha PSR anyway. I usually only use this when my keyboard is on rental, or I’m outside and only companied by KORG nanoKEY2.

Upright Piano

Ragtime Piano

Grand Piano

Native Instruments Alicia’s Keys

Alicia’s Keys’s is the name of artist right? Yes, this is her Yamaha C3 Neo piano. So, in theory, they sampled Yamaha C3 Neo, and then slapped Alicia’s Keys name because she had this piano. Idk tho.

According to its page in Native Instruments, sampling was made to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Yamaha in 2002 yesterday.

This is the second most frequent Piano I use in Komplete 10 Ultimate. It’s just a little heavy on disk usage, and I still use HDD (no SSD), so my computer usually cry a little bit.

The sound character itself is very similar to the  ConcertGrand in Yamaha PSR. For additional information itself, ConcertGrand in Yamaha PSR-S950 and above is sampled from Yamaha CFIIIs. It is reasonable if the sound are quite similar.

Native Instruments The Maverick

The Maverick is sampled from 1905 Bechstein Grand Piano, originally built for his Majesty Prince Friedrich Carl von Preussen in 1905, and then gifted to the Royal Princess of Great Britain

Yes, really 1905. Crazy right?

This piano is smaller than The Grandeur, so the low tone is not too as deep as The Grandeur. Well suited to jazz songs. Indeed, I rarely use this piano anyway, so I don’t have too many comments.

Native Instruments The Grandeur

This is the piano I most used in Komplete 10. The Grandeur is sampled from Steinway D. Almost all the tracks I’ve ever made, use this piano. Especially if you play it with 88-key controller, whether it borrow GPIB’s Clavinova or GPdI Ecclesia’s RD700, then wear headphones, and close your eyes …
It feels like a real grand piano.

But idk tho, maybe you do not like. Just hear it yourself.

Native Instruments The Gentleman

One of the other piano I almost never use, I only use it 2 times. To be honest, I do not really like an upright piano, because the low key isn’t really deep. It is normal though, because it has much shorter strings than a Grand Piano.

This piano are sampled from Bechstein Model A, made in 1908.

Native Instruments World : Cuba

Details on Native Instruments also not too clear. In short, this library is actually focused on Cuban music. However, one of Cuba instruments is piano. So I just tried them.

But the official demo Cuba itself in NI (montuno Varadero) is made with Alicia’s Keys. I do not know lah.

SONiVOX Eighty Eight Ensemble

Eighty Eight Ensemble 2.5

The first review for non-NI works.

Eighty Eight Ensemble were made of Steinway CD327 by SONiVOX. I get one for free, from purchasing Alesis VX49. Many controller from Akai, Alesis, and M-Audio give this software, because they are all (+ Numark, Denon DJ, etc.) are under inMusicBrands.

What I don’t like, is heavy CPU and Disk usage. Otherwise, the sound is really good, just like The Grandeur.

Ableton | Grand Piano

Almost never used for mastering. But if asked to choose this or Kontakt Factory Library, I choose this. Always a tool to develop an idea, with the KORG nanoKEY2. When mastering, I simply replace the piano.

This pack is actually comes with Live 9 Standard and above. I myself use the *ahem* Suite *ahem*.

Created by Ableton with e-instruments. e-instruments own products are great, for example World Series Cuba above, and Session Strings.

Where are this Piano? Where is it? Whereeeee?
I run out of piano plugins, this is everything I got. I myself wanted to try Una Corda, but can’t afford upgrade to Komplete 11 Ultimate :(

Note : Una Corda is another weird piano by David Klavins, with only 1 strings per key (where other piano usually have up to 3)
